Cooling System Service
What is a cooling system?
The cooling system is what keeps your vehicle’s engine operating at an optimal temperature to run smoothly. Your cooling system is comprised of a radiator, fan, water pump, and thermostat. A mixture of water and coolant runs through this system and your engine to keep it from overheating as the engine works to power your vehicle. The cooling system requires regular inspections to ensure the fluid levels are sufficient and that the components are running smoothly. Without this, you may find yourself surprised by a vehicle breakdown due to an overheated engine, leaving you stranded and with major engine repair costs.
When you bring your vehicle to Briggs Nissan, one of the factory-trained technicians will inspect all components of your cooling system, including:
Radiator and caps
HVAC system (heating and air conditioning)
Every element will be checked to ensure there are no cracks or leaks, proper seals are in place, and there are no loose or malfunctioning parts. The thermostat will be monitored to check that it is measuring and regulating the temperature correctly, and a full flush and refill will be performed so that any contaminants are removed and a fresh coolant and water mixture is provided to the entire system.
When is a cooling system service needed?
A regular check of your coolant levels and a visual inspection of the cooling system can take place during an oil change or any other regular vehicle maintenance check-up. However, if you notice any of the following signs, it is recommended you schedule a cooling system service right away:
The rising temperature gauge on your vehicle’s dashboard, indicating your cooling system is having trouble regulating your engine’s temperature.
A coolant leak, which is easy to spot as bright green liquid collecting underneath the front of your vehicle.
Steam coming from the hood, a telltale sign that your engine is overheated.
White exhaust smoke, which often indicates a leak in the cooling system.
When you bring your vehicle in for service, the technician can troubleshoot the cause of the issues above, recommend any replacement parts if needed and get your engine and cooling system back in top condition. The Briggs Nissan service center uses only genuine parts and accessories, and whether you have a quick check-up or need major engine repair, service financing options are available. You can schedule your service appointment at either the Manhattan, Kansas or Junction City, Kansas locations.
