Nissan Motor Co’s Chairman & CEO, Carlos Ghosn, talked about how vital this new plant is, with respect for the future, stating, “Mexico is a key engine for Nissan’s growth in the Americas. Together with our new plant in Brazil, this new manufacturing facility in Aguascalientes is an important pillar in our strategy to ensure that Nissan has the capacity it needs to increase sales volume and market share across the Americas.”
Once completed the new facility in Mexico will be able to produce up to 175,000 vehicles a year. Nissan has not ruled out the possibility of expansion in the years to come, but will test the waters and see how the 175,000 vehicle capacity holds up. The new facility in Aguascalientes will also benefit Nissan’s existing plants in Mexican due to the fact that a brand new supplier park will be added to the Aguascalientes location. This is also great for the local economy of Mexico as the new plant will generate up 3,000 directly and could also build up to a total of 9,000 jobs once everything comes full-circle.
